Former Graduate Students
Tiffany Lockett, PhD explores how devaluing social representations of racial minorities in America contribute to bias and disciplinary disparities in school and neighborhood settings. She also examines how restorative and community-based practices can reverse these outcomes for racial minority youth.
Giselle Laiduc, PhD, develops cultural interventions to increase retention of underrepresented students (e.g., students of color, women) in STEM. She is particularly interested in how the competitive nature of STEM fields relates to student retention and how message framing can impact students’ behavior.
Ibette Valle, PhD, examines the social, cultural and familial factors affecting the transition to and through college for low-income, first-generation college and/or students of color. She works to translate her research into practices that can improve the holistic experiences of students from marginalized backgrounds across all levels of education.
